Tanjong Jara Resort – The Sucimurni Retreat
November 08, 2017

I’ve previously shared my experience on spending a weekend at Tanjong Jara Resort. This time round, I will be giving you an insight on the Sucimurni retreat which I attended at the resort. The resort’s theme of wholesomeness, Sucimurni, emphasizes purity of spirit, health, and well-being. Through the resort’s Sucimurni exercises and yoga sessions taught by Ninie, the yoga instructor, I was able to find the path to peaceful bliss within myself.
Do you know that yoga helps to beat stress, anxiety and depression without popping pills? Yoga can be a natural anti-depressant remedy and can boost mental health. Begin the day with gentle signature stretching exercises inspired by the seven main animal chakras. Based on the Malay concept of Sucimurni, these exercises aim to balance your mind and body for a fresh start to the morning.
Besides this exercise, the 3D2N retreat featured sunrise yoga, evening yoga, and yoga by the beach. The first sunrise yoga was held at the poolside, and it was an amazing experience for me. Instructor Ninie was very helpful and encouraging, which was why I decided to do the “tiger bend” pose. Couldn’t have succeeded without her guidance and assistance!
The second sunrise yoga was held at the beach, and it was a beautiful sight. There was a moment when we had to keep our eyes close to just relax and cool down after the workout, and the only sound I heard was the waves crashing musically against the shore. I made it a point to remember that particular moment, so if I ever feel frustrated or not at my best in future, I would bring myself back to that point of time and remind myself to stay calm. Time spent doing yoga by the beach encompass peace and tranquility in a natural environment. I enjoyed it a lot.
During the Sucimurni retreat, Ninie also taught everyone Zendoodling. A zen doodle is a stress reliever which makes you draw designs using structured patterns, and without a particular picture. When you’re zendoodling, you’re not only creating a work of art, but also deliberately creating a mood, focus, and state of mind. Concentrate on drawing small blocks of patterns at a time, and just go with the flow. It allows your mind to get into a calming zen state, and helps you to follow through on impulsive thoughts.
The Sucimurni retreat was relaxing and enjoyable, and I’ve created lifelong memories with new friends. Some of the photos are taken by ToughAsia!
