Located in amba Taipei Songshan, QUE is a great dining option if you’re looking to have dinner with a view. If you time your dinner well, you’ll get to catch the gorgeous sunset before watching Taipei city light up beautifully at night. The interior boasts warm lighting decorated with huge artistic lanterns which make the restaurant very inviting and enhance your dining experience. The menu features Western cuisine from starters to soups to salads to mains to desserts.

The Sharing Menu for Two comes with two starters, two soups or salads, one main and two desserts. The pricing depends on the main dish you’re ordering, but trust me, this sharing menu is worth every dollar spent. The 16oz US Brandt Bone-In Natural Ribeye Steak ($2,980TWD) is accompanied by roasted cherry tomatoes, some grilled vegetables and Malbec wine sauce. The steak was done medium, and grilled to perfection. The meat was tender and lightly seasoned such that the beef still retains its natural flavours. The juices that exploded in my mouth with every bite simply whet my appetite for more.

For the starters, we had the Grilled Hokkaido Scallop and the Yuzu Pepper Tuna Ceviche. The former contains stewed vegetables, flavoured bread crumbs and seaweed rice chips. The scallop was huge, juicy and very fresh. I wished I could have more. The latter consists fresh premium Tuna seasoned with yuzu pepper drenched in a lemon dressing and is served with kumquat and wasabi mayo. This dish was refreshing because you’ll first taste the tangy flavours from the yuzu and lemon dressing before the peppery twist towards the end. What a delightful combination to tickle the taste buds!

Next came the Beet-cured Smoked Salmon Caesar Salad and the QUE Five-Onion Soup. The salad was presented in a myriad of colours with thinly sliced housemade smoked salmon, charred romaine heart, bacon bits and toasted walnut bread slice. I like the mix of different textures in every mouthful. The soup is made up of slow cooked red onions, white onions, leeks, shallots, garlic and Swiss cheese au gratin. It’s not as heavy as those cream-based soups and it goes really well with the steak.

Our dinner ended on a sweet note with the Banana Cheese Cake and the Chocolate Soufflé. The cheese cake is accompanied by caramelized bananas and salted caramel sauce. I was expecting it to be very sweet but it had just the right amount of sweetness that did not overwhelm the taste of the banana. The Chocolate Soufflé, on the other hand, is a richer and heavier dessert. The soufflé is freshly prepared with a harmonic proportion of 75% and 58% of cream batter, served with vanilla dressing. I would recommend this dessert for chocolate lovers.

This restaurant is great for families, couples who like a romantic dinner with a view, and friends who just want to feast and chill out. There are many more items on the ala carte menu which I did not have the stomach space to try. Grab a bigger group before heading down so you’ll be able to savour more dishes.
