Oriental Residence Bangkok – Step Away from Bangkok’s Busy Shopping District into this Peaceful Parisian Chic Style Hotel

October 27, 2017

Whenever I visit Bangkok, I’ve always stayed around the vicinity of Pratunam and Siam. This time round, I was fortunate to be hosted at the Oriental Residence Bangkok. Located in a tranquil environment which isn’t too far away from the heart of Bangkok’s shopping district, I got to enjoy the peace and quiet after a chaotic day of jostling around with the crazy crowd. The neighbourhood is very safe as the Embassy of the United States of America and the Embassy of the Netherlands are situated right beside the hotel, with many security guards patrolling the area.

Oriental Residence Bangkok is unique because you can either stay short-term like me, or extend to a longer stay. The hotel provides monthly rates in their 145 lavishly-furnished guest rooms and suites. There are one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom suites available.

We were hosted at the Grand Deluxe room which boasts an elegant interior with rich colours that complement the styling. You get stunning views from the window. The room is spacious with lavish conveniences. Comfort is distinctly represented in every detail, from custom-designed furniture to recessed overhead lighting and dark hardwood floors contrasted by cream colour marble. There is a living and a dining area, with a fully-equipped kitchen. I believe, the best part, especially for ladies, is the walk-in wardrobe which is connected to the full marble bathroom. There is a luxurious bathtub and a separate glass-enclosed shower.

To be honest, the bed is the most comfortable, or one of the best beds I have slept on in my twenty plus years of life. It is neither too hard, nor too soft, with just the right amount of spring. The linen is clean and smooth. Accompanied by the fluffy pillows, I could lay down, relax for hours, and daydream about places I’d like to visit.

The swimming pool and the 24-hour fitness centre can be found on the 4th floor. There are cushy cabanas and cozy egg chairs for you to relax in. Part of the pool is sheltered – very ideal for the ladies who love to swim, but are worried about getting too tanned. You can enjoy a refreshing swim or simply lounge by the poolside with tasty food and thirst-quenching drinks from the Play Deck. On the other hand, the gym features personal trainers and coaching courses combined with quality cardiovascular and multi system resistance equipment.

On the ground floor, you can begin the day with a scrumptious spread of breakfast buffet at Café Claire, or have a more substantial lunch and dinner. I loved having breakfast here! Besides the buffet stations, there are 5 items which are prepared a la minute. The Egg Florentine consisting 2 poached eggs served with spinach and topped with Morney cheese sauce were very well executed. There is a wide variety of freshly brewed TWG tea available, and I really liked the Moonfruit Black Tea.

Though the Oriental Residence Bangkok makes you want to stay put in the hotel, I’m pretty sure you can’t resist shopping and feasting your way through the city. It only takes about 10 minutes, depending on traffic condition, and less than 100 Baht to get to the Siam shopping district. You can also take an evening stroll at the serene Lumpini Park which is just 10 minutes away from the hotel by foot. If you venture slightly further by foot, turn into Soi Sanam Khli (Soi Polo) and look for stall number 10/2. This stall serves delicious street food and noodles.

Feel like pampering yourself with a fine dining experience in Bangkok? Just head to Glasshouse@Sindhorn which is only 5 minutes away from the Oriental Residence Bangkok by foot. You can choose from an authentic range of international restaurants from Thai to Italian.

Our stay at the Oriental Residence Bangkok was wonderful. The service was impeccable, and this is one of the reasons why I will return to stay at this hotel when I visit Bangkok again in future.
