Watersports at Nusa Dua, Bali

Watersports at Nusa Dua, Bali

April 22, 2017

This post is for the adventure-seekers who are always looking for some adrenaline rush. My boyfriend and I spent a weekend in Bali exploring temples, catching sunsets, and relaxing at the beautiful beaches. But, our trip wouldn’t be complete without trying Bali’s watersports.

We stayed at a villa in Seminyak, and were recommended to try watersports at Tanjung Benoa Beach, located approximately 40 minutes away. There are many vendors offering different watersports packages. I don’t remember the vendor we approached, but our package included parasailing, jet ski, banana boat, and sea walker.

I’ve parasailed in New Zealand prior to this trip, and it was a wonderful experience. However, I can’t quite say the same for parasailing in Bali. It was quite disappointing. Perhaps, we should’ve gone snorkelling, or wake-boarding instead.

It was my first time being on the jet ski and banana boat, and I enjoyed accelerating to the maximum speed. But, you have to be careful as it’s tricky to keep your eyes open while the wind’s brushing against your face, and droplets of water are getting into your eyes.

The highlight of our watersports adventure was definitely the sea walker experience. You’ll be using a unique sea walker helmet design which doesn’t require a dive tank. This soft dive system kind of reminded me of the helmets used by astronauts. A heavy belt will be tied around your waist, to ensure there’s enough weight pulling you downwards to the sea bed. Don’t worry, it sounds deep, but it’s actually only 10 to 15 metres down.

My boyfriend and I have never gotten so close to fish and other kinds of amazing sea life. He was more daring, and tried touching the corals, and some fish, but scaredy-cat me refrained. We were given bread to feed the fish too. It was very interesting to see the school of fish swimming towards us when we took out the bread. So, if you’ve ever wondered how it’s like to walk at the bottom of the ocean and curious about the marine life that goes down there, sea walker is perfect for you.

Besides the water activities that we’ve done, you can also get on a glass bottom boat to Turtle Island, go fishing, diving, or try the donut ride and flying fish ride. What’s more, Tanjung Benoa Beach is only about 10 minutes drive from Nusa Dua Beach. You can unwind and soak up the sun at white-golden sandy beaches that are not as crowded as the beaches at Kuta and Seminyak. Have fun!
