Sapa is famous for its lush green rice terraces, mountainous region, cool weather and an ethnic minority group native to Vietnam. With its distinct characteristics, it’s not surprising that the cuisine in Sapa is unique. While looking for a place in Sapa to dine at, Jayden and I came across the Little Sapa Restaurant. Although this restaurant is hidden in a back alley, we believe that this is one of Sapa’s best kept secrets. This unassuming little restaurant is full of surprises, and we had our lunch and dinner here multiple times during our trip.

For a little restaurant, the menu is pretty extensive. You’ll be able to find appetisers like salads and spring rolls, heart-warming soups that are great for Sapa’s cool weather, a variety of meat and vegetables dishes, rice, noodles, and even comfort food such as sandwiches and burgers. There are different types of hotpot set meals available too.

I highly recommend the Tofu with Little Sapa’s Sauce and the Grilled Special Tofu on Hotplate. The Grilled Deer on Hotplate, Roasted Half Chicken with Honey and Grilled Pork Sapa-style on Hotplate are noteworthy dishes as well. The portion is quite huge and one serving is good for two to three persons, depending on whether you’re a hearty diner or not. We saw curry with rice on the menu, so we ordered one, just to try. As compared to Thai curry which uses coconut milk heavily, Indian curry with a strong spice flavour, and Japanese curry which has a hint of sweetness, Vietnamese curry at Little Sapa Restaurant features an intense lemongrass aroma.

On our final day in Sapa, we feasted on one of the hotpot set meals, and this dining experience completed our Sapa trip on a satisfying note. Moreover, the owner and employees are friendly and efficient, and here’s the best part – the prices are among the lowest in Sapa. If you’re currently in Sapa or are visiting Sapa soon, you can consider dining at Little Sapa Restaurant.
