Campuhan Ridge Walk – The Easiest Hike with Spectacular Views in Ubud, Bali

Campuhan Ridge Walk – The Easiest Hike with Spectacular Views in Ubud, Bali

October 06, 2018

The Campuhan Ridge Walk offers a different view from the usual rice fields and rice terraces in Ubud. This is the easiest hike I’ve embarked on in Bali where you get rewarded by views of lush green rolling hills. The entrance of the hike is easily found in front of the sign at Warwick Ibah, and is within walking distance from Ubud’s city centre. Just follow the left route sloping downwards, go down the steps which brings you under a bridge before heading upwards and walking around the walls of the Pura Gunung Lebah Temple. As you follow the temple around, you will be given the choice of following the temple all the way or heading off to the right. Pick the right paved trail and your 2-kilometres (one-way) hike will begin.

If you’re a photography enthusiast or an instagrammer who wants to avoid getting photobombed, it is better to visit the Campuhan Ridge Walk in the morning, as early as 6am or 7am. My friend and I arrived at 7am and on our way through the trail, there were already hikers coming from the opposite direction. While we just started the hike, they had finished and were making their way out. You should avoid hiking in the afternoon because the entire route is unsheltered and you will be exposed to Bali’s insane heat. Even if you’re hiking in the morning or in the evening, it’ll be wise to slather on some sunscreen and bring a bottle of water to hydrate yourself. Don’t forget to spray some insect repellant too.

There are no washrooms along the trail, so it might be a good idea to plan your washroom breaks before and after the hike. We regretted not hiking all the way because we only found out about the Karsa Café when we returned to Ubud’s city centre. The Karsa Café features a couple of floating huts overlooking a lotus pond. I can imagine how relaxing it must feel to enjoy breakfast with a view over there. This scenic trail is a wonderful escape from the bustling streets of Ubud.
