Café Claire Afternoon Tea – A Timeless Tradition at Oriental Residence Bangkok

Since its creation in England in the early 1800s by Anna, Duchess of Bedford, afternoon tea has long been associated with the society and how people mingle. This ritual comes alive every afternoon at Café Claire, where guests are invited to enjoy distinct interpretations of this legacy, inspired by traditions. Café Claire exudes a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe which makes for a welcome respite from the CBD hustle-bustle lifestyle. The afternoon tea menu rotates every quarter to keep things fresh, and one of their best-selling menus is the ongoing Voyage À Paris Afternoon Tea. The theme changes according to season.

We had the Voyage À Paris Afternoon Tea which costs 1,500 Baht for two persons. Embark on a journey to the city of love with dainty treats elegantly served on a custom-made miniature Eiffel Tower. Look forward to traditional French savoury treats and desserts, including lime pistachio mille-feuilles, St. Honoré cakes, Mont Blanc cakes, the Duchesse raspberry-lemon macaron, and many more, with a selection of TWG teas and ILLY coffee.

Helming the kitchen is Executive Chef Chawaphol (Boyd) Leetrakul, with 15 years of experience in the culinary and hospitality industries. He oversees the culinary department and its operations, as well as develop the quality and standard of all recipes for Café Claire and banqueting. Prior to joining Oriental Residence Bangkok, Chef Chawaphol served at several well-known institutions such as Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn, Mango Tree in Dubai and Qatar, and Angelina Restaurant in Central Chidlom Bangkok.


The homemade plain and raisin scones with fruit confitures and clotted cream go very well with the teas. I would recommend the Geisha Blossom Tea for those who prefer a floral scent or the Pink Flamingo Tea for those who like fruity flavours. The Silver Moon Tea is ideal for those who love a surprising twist from the hint of spice added into the tea. Iced teas such as Crème Caramel Tea, Polo Club Tea, and Lemon Bush Tea are also available.

Savoury treats come in the form of Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Sandwich, and Ham & Cheese Croissant. The fishy taste from the smoked salmon is not overwhelming. I believe it has been handled very well in the kitchen. The latter is a tad more common, but the croissant has a fluffy texture, and is slightly crispy on the outside.


Out of all the sweet desserts I’ve savoured, my top 3 favourites are the Duchesse raspberry-lemon macaron, St. Honoré cake, and the lime pistachio mille-feuilles. The buttercream of the Duchesse is very light on the palate, and the macarons are not overly sweet. The raspberries give this pretty-looking dessert a refreshing end.

As for the St. Honoré cake, if you don’t already know, it is named after St. Honoré, the patron saint of pastry chefs. This torte has a puff pastry base, topped with pastry cream and whipped cream, surrounded by profiteroles dipped in caramelized sugar. It contains just the right amount of sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth.


Mille-feuille is a classic French dessert with three layers of puff pastry. Café Claire’s mille-feuille is a cute rendition on the classic version. It has a good combination of sweet, tangy, and nutty flavours which I’ve enjoyed very much. You can expect other desserts like white chocolate mousse domes, madeleines, and Charlotte cakes.

Café Claire’s afternoon tea is very value for money, and presented impressively. Set in such a Parisian chic and unpretentious interior, I would love to bring my girlfriends back here after our shopping spree just to enjoy an afternoon of catching up on each others’ lives, exchanging gossips, and indulging in these delectable treats.
