Whenever I travel for a very long period of time, I will check into a fancy hotel to rest, relax and recharge halfway through my trip. I visited Bagan in February and had the honour of being hosted at the Aureum Palace Hotel & Resort. The rooms and villas are set within the Bagan Archaeological Preservation Zone and you will be able to see some old ruins and pagodas surrounding the hotel. Set amidst 27 acres of tropical landscaped gardens, the Aureum Palace Hotel & Resort is the ideal place for visitors seeking a unique journey into the history of ancient Bagan.

There are deluxe rooms and different types of villas available here. The rooms and villas are adorned with antiques, artifacts and local arts which complement the majestic ambience of the hotel and its surroundings. The bedrooms are spacious and elegant with all modern facilities while the bathrooms are large and lavishly equipped with luxurious amenities.

I, personally, feel that whichever room or villa you choose to stay in does not matter because the amazing facilities, especially the infinity pool which looks out to some pagodas, make the entire hotel experience a good one. You should definitely allocate an evening to enjoy a dip in the pool while catching the sunset. Don’t forget to unwind with a cocktail or two from the Ayarwaddy Poolside Bar.

There is also the Aureum Nature Spa for you to pamper your tired bodies. The entrance to the spa is a true replica of an 11th century temple. The Spa’s design combines natural light, and warm, earthy colors and textures to create a deeply peaceful oasis in a cozy and soothing atmosphere connecting the spa experience with the surrounding environment and culture. I wished I had time to enjoy a spa treatment, but I’m always busy exploring around whenever I’m overseas.

The other perk of staying at the Aureum Palace Hotel & Resort is that one of the most popular attractions in Bagan is a mere 7 to 10 minutes’ walk away. The Bagan Tower, also known as the Nan Myint Tower, allows you to take in the impressive panoramic view of Bagan plains. You will be awed by over 2,000 ancient pagodas and monuments. Early risers should also head here for the sunrise because you will be able to see almost the same view as when you are riding in a hot air balloon. This is great for those who do not want to burn a hole in their pockets.

The Aureum Palace Hotel & Resort is very safe, and great for families, as well as, couples honeymooning in Myanmar. I would gladly splurge on this extravagant accommodation the next time I visit Bagan.
