A Foodie’s Guide to Ximending brought to you by amba Taipei Ximending
August 10, 2019

Located within the Pedestrian Area in Western Taipei, amba Taipei Ximending hotel is part of the fashionable Eslite shopping complex on Wuchang Street, a five-minute walk to Ximen Metro Station. It is the perfect base for exploring trendy Ximending and fun Taipei, with easy access to Red House Theatre, Taipei 101, Shilin, Beitou, and more.
I was hosted in the Large Room which features free high-speed fibre-optic based WiFi Internet access, Sony BRAVIA Internet TV with built-in Skype and social media connections, a writing desk, and conveniently located 110V universal power outlets. The king-sized bed is comfortable with 100% natural unbleached linen. Hypoallergenic pillows and blankets with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation are available upon request. The hotel uses eco-friendly wood flooring and headboard as well. There’s a separate washroom and shower room with dual rainforest and power massage showerheads. Unbleached organic cotton towels are provided, and the all natural ginger rejuvenating bathroom amenities are exclusively provided by socially responsible Taiwanese brand Two Acres. Instead of the usual bedroom slippers that you find at other hotels, there are free trendy amba flip flops for you to wear and to take home.
The first thing I do after checking into hotels when I’m abroad is to look for local food around the neighbourhood. Ximending is a wonderful place to begin your feast on Taiwanese food. The following are 3 recommendations you might want to consider trying when you’re staying at amba Taipei Ximending.
#1 – Wuchang Street Section 2 Lane 50 (武昌街2段50巷) Street Food
From grilled mochi to cheese potato to Taiwanese sausages, grilled beef cubes, and other local street food, it’s better to visit this lane of vendors with an empty stomach. Do note that this lane gets very crowded in the evenings.
#2 – Tian Tian Li Mei Shi Fang (天天利美食坊)
There are two eateries located side by side offering similar dishes, and both of them are famous for the braised minced pork rice and oyster omelette. Personally, I prefer Tian Tian Li’s braised minced pork rice. It’s more flavourful and goes perfectly well with a sunny side-up egg.
#3 – San Xiong Mei (三兄妹雪花冰)
Taiwanese shaved ice is a staple for locals, especially during the summer season. This particular stall offers huge servings of shaved ice in many different fruity flavours. The Mango with Ice Cream and Milk Snowflake Ice is my favourite. The other options include a variation of beans, taro, peanuts, and even corn. This is definitely a great way to cool down.
Aside from trying local Taiwanese delicacies, you might need to take a break and indulge in some comfort food. Head to chiba Restaurant located within amba Taipei Ximending for breakfast buffet, Detroit-style square pizza, healthy salads, pastas, steaks, and seafood dishes.
There is plenty of activities to keep you entertained around Ximending and ample food choices which leave you spoilt for choice. If you’re someone who values convenience and is particular about the cleanliness of the hotel you stay in when you’re overseas, amba Taipei Ximending is an ideal choice for you.
