amba Taipei Songshan – This Fantastic Hotel Deserves a Second Visit
April 30, 2018

Taipei is an exciting city full of activities from morning to night. This is where I feel at home even though I’m away from home. The people are friendly and very helpful and the local street foods are superb and very affordable. Whether you’re travelling for business or leisure, staying long term or just for a few days, you should give amba Taipei Songshan hotel a try. I was introduced to the 3 amba Taipei hotels last August and it’s so interesting that each hotel has its own uniqueness and style which is influenced by the neighbourhood that the hotels are located in. This is my second time staying at the amba Taipei Songshan and I will not repeat what I’ve reviewed previously. This time round, I’ll share the new things which I’ve discovered with all of you.
I was hosted in the river view room last year and this time round, I gasped in surprise upon entering the room that I was hosted in because the full length windows presented me with an unblocked view of the iconic Taipei 101. Besides the splendid view, what I really like about the full length windows is that they give the room natural sunlight and some warmth. Imagine waking up to this view every morning! During my stay, I lazed in the huge bed – oh yes, really HUGE bed – and didn’t want to leave the room because the view is just too pretty. Trust me – the bed is so huge that no matter how you toss and turn and roll during slumber time, you will certainly not end up on the ground. There’s a Nescafe machine in the room and you can enjoy coffee while taking in the view too. Furthermore, the work station has ample space for me to catch up on work. The layout and design of the room is modern and minimalistic yet so practical.
I will not go into detail regarding the hotel amenities such as the free self-service laundry room, the gym and the relaxing space on the same floor as the lobby because I’ve already talked about them in the previous article.
Moving on to the Que Woodfired Grill restaurant – it serves breakfast buffet every morning and I’m really glad that they added the braised minced pork rice to the selection. This is my favourite Taiwanese dish and I went for a second, or even a third helping if my memory isn’t failing me. It isn’t too salty nor too oily – just the way I like it. When night falls, the restaurant looks classier with warm lighting but it isn’t pretentious and it still feels casual dining here. The menu features Western cuisine with woodfire grilled mains as its specialty. If you don’t wish to go for the ala carte items, there is a set menu for one and a sharing menu for two available.
The amba Taipei Songshan hotel is situated in a tranquil neighbourhood but within close proximity to the famous Wufenpu garment market and the Raohe night market. You can learn about local culture at the Ciyou temple. There is a new Japanese lifestyle bookstore that just opened recently beside the hotel and the Songshan train station is just a couple of minutes’ walk away. The Nangang Exhibition Hall takes just 10 minutes by car so if you have any major events taking place there, amba Taipei Songshan is a great choice of accommodation for you.
If you are someone who’s looking for a peaceful place for a good night’s rest in the city, the amba Taipei Songshan is perfect for you. It is not too far from the hustle-bustle but far enough for you to rest and relax in a quiet neighbourhood. Plus, you can enjoy incredible views from your room and tasty food in the hotel.
