Canvas Escape – Relax at this Boutique Lifestyle Resort in Ubud, Bali
October 10, 2018
As its name would suggest, my friend and I escaped the hubbub of Ubud’s city centre where the Ubud Palace and the Ubud Traditional Art Market are located to an oasis of calm at the Canvas Escape Resort. Thoughtfully designed with indulgent touches and colourful, traditional art pieces, each villa and suite has its own uniqueness. The villas and suites are equipped with exquisite amenities which cater to the needs of couples, family and friends.
During check-in, the affable receptionist served us iced lemongrass tea – the perfect remedy for Bali’s sweltering heat. She was very helpful when we asked her for suggestions on the places to visit and dine at in Ubud.

We were hosted in the “Joglo” style Deluxe Villa which is constructed from old teak and finished with modern materials and conveniences. “Joglo” is a type of traditional Javanese house associated with Javanese aristocrats. Our villa has an in-room safe, minibar fridge, individual climate control air-conditioning system, international power sockets, coffee and tea making facilities, superior linens and beddings. The semi-open bathroom includes a bathtub. We like sitting out on the patio with the view of the swimming pool. There’s even a canvas placed on the patio, with watercolour paints and brushes, so if you feel inspired, why not try creating a masterpiece?

Breakfast is served by the poolside, but you can also arrange for breakfast to be served in your villa or suite. You will notice a food truck named, “Shiok!” – an adjective used to describe meals that are very tasty and delicious. Dishes from Bali, Sulawesi and Java are prepared by native chefs using guarded family recipes to maintain the authenticity. We shared a combination of Asian, continental and American breakfast, accompanied by fresh made-to-order juices and the famous Balinese coffee.
If you’re feeling exhausted from a full day of exploring Ubud, just drop by the Canvas Spa. Look forward to treatments in a peaceful and tranquil environment designed to soothe the mind and body, and help you look and feel your best. Read about my spa experience here.
In terms of location, Canvas Escape Resort is just an hour away from the Ngurah Rai International Airport, and only a few minutes’ drive from the famous Monkey Forest, the Ubud Traditional Art Market, Rudana Museum, and other attractions. The surrounding areas also specialise in woodcarvings and crafts with hundreds of shops selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings and jewellery nearby.
We like the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of this boutique lifestyle resort. It is indeed a peaceful ‘abode’ to return to, after a day of adventures in Bali. The hospitable resort staff are always there for you, and we would like to compliment them for their impeccable service standard. Hope you’ll enjoy your stay as much as we did.
