Hotel Nostalgia – Explore Tiong Bahru Like A Local While Staying At This Urban Boutique Hotel

Situated beside one of Singapore’s prominent local food markets, Hotel Nostalgia is a wonderful sanctuary to return to after a hot day out exploring Singapore. Featuring 50 rooms ranging from superior room, deluxe room, exclusive room to balcony room, you can choose to pamper yourself in the lush themed room or immerse yourself in Singapore’s historical heritage in the colonial themed room. Food choices are aplenty around the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood and there are buses and the MRT system which conveniently connect you to wherever you want to visit in Singapore.

I was hosted in the Seng Poh room – a corner balcony room. It was spacious and there’s a portrait art piece of the Chinese Opera singer. The bed was huge and comfortable, and the bathroom had an ideal size. You can begin the day catching up on local news over a cup of aromatic coffee in the balcony before heading down to the bistro for breakfast.

The Potion Bistro & Bar boasts an alfresco dining area and serves breakfast and all-day dining while the Lounge Bar offers a good selection of wine, beer, liqeur, liquor, interesting cocktails and refreshing mocktails. You can choose from savoury and sweet breakfast items or indulge in some comfort foods such as pizzas, tapas and western cuisine throughout the day. Unwind at the bar in the evening with your friends and colleagues before retiring to your cozy rooms.

If you need to relax, head up to the third level and you’ll find the outdoor swimming pool. You can also take a stroll around the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood and look for incredible wall murals depicting the life of Singaporeans in the past. Just pop by any cafes to laze the afternoon away!

If you’re interested in trying local hawker fare, there’s a huge variety available at the Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre which will leave you spoilt for choice. I highly recommend chwee kueh – steamed rice cakes topped with diced preserved radish and served with chilli sauce.

The Tiong Bahru Air Raid Shelter and the Qi Tian Gong Temple are great places to explore around Tiong Bahru too. You can learn about the life of Singaporeans during the Japanese occupation and about our local culture. With so many things to see and eat around the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood, you should consider staying at Hotel Nostalgia when you visit Singapore.
