Jayden and I enjoyed the Onyx Set Menu ($68++ per person). This set menu features five savoury dishes and a dessert. We started with the London Duck Pancake Roll with Parma Ham, Pineapple and Crispy Beancurd Skin. There was an explosion of flavours and textures in every bite. We loved how the tanginess cuts through the savoury duck, leaving a refreshing taste lingering in our mouths.
This was followed by the Double-boiled Kami Sakura Chicken Soup with Black Garlic, Cordyceps Flower and Bamboo Pith. This nutritious and heartwarming soup is perfect for rainy days and for days when you’re feeling a little under the weather. Top quality ingredients are used and we felt that the soup was very luxurious.
Next, we had the Braised ‘Dong Po’ Pork Belly served with Crispy Bun and the Sautéed Scallop & Cuttlefish with X.O. Chilli served with Royal Chives. The former had a well-balanced amount of lean meat and fatty layers. The fatty layers were jelly-like and totally melted in our mouths. We found it unique that the pork belly was served with spiral breadsticks. The latter, on the other hand, featured a plump and juicy scallop and slices of cuttlefish. It was nice to have some vegetables in between the heavier meat dishes.
Before our dessert was served, we had the Stewed Ee-Fu Noodles with King Prawn, Ginger and Spring Onion. My family and friends have always found me strange because whenever we attend Chinese wedding banquets, I’m the only one who look forward to having the Ee-Fu noodles or Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice when everyone was already full. I love noodles, so needless to say, I enjoyed this dish. Moreover, the king prawn served at Golden Peony was fresh and huge.
We ended our meal with the Chilled Black Glutinous Rice Purée with Ice Cream. The taste was pretty similar to pulut hitam, except that the coconut milk wasn’t too overwhelming.
Jayden and I had an enjoyable dining experience at Golden Peony, and we’re thinking of revisiting with our parents and families. You should give this restaurant a try too!
