amba Taipei Songshan was officially unveiled on 1 July 2016. This urban oasis boasts spectacular views of Taipei 101 and the beautiful Keelung River. Designed for the savvy urban traveler who appreciates creativity, connectivity, and conservation, amba adds an element of fun to travel through its modern, playful design, inviting social areas, and energetic team. You’ll find eco-friendly materials and all natural products used throughout the hotel, as they aim to advocate for a healthy, sustainable environment.

Although amba Taipei Songshan is located in Eastern Taipei which is not particularly near popular spots such as Xi Men Ding, there’s direct access to Songshan Station for the metro (exit 4A) and trains. The station is just a mere 5 minutes walk away! Furthermore, guests who stay at the hotel can use their free shuttle service which will bring you to Taipei 101 and the trendsetting Xinyi shopping and business district in less than 10 minutes. Here are 5 things you can do if you choose to stay at amba Taipei Songshan!

#1 Rest & Relax In The Spacious Rooms

amba Taipei Songshan’s rooms are spacious, ranging from the 27-square-metre Smart Room to the 107-square-metre 1-bedroom Studio. Besides free WiFi and super high speed data transfer rates of up to 200 Mbps throughout the entire hotel, there is also a separate access point in each room for an optimal WiFi experience, and a minimum of 6 universal power outlets, and 3 USB charging ports. Such good news right? You no longer have to fight with your loved ones over who gets to charge their phones or cameras first!

Each room features a bright, minimalist design, offset with large windows, and playful, colourful artwork. We could admire the magnificent Keelung River from our room! But, in other rooms, you’ll get the view of the iconic Taipei 101. You’ll also get spoilt by a host of modern conveniences, from a Nespresso machine, and an Ecostat Comfort rain shower, to a 48-inch Sony BRAVIA Full HD Internet TV, and the wireless Bluetooth speaker which we really enjoyed blasting our favourite music from. There’s a free trendy pair of amba flip flops for you to wear in the room, and you can take it home as a souvenir if you wish to do so.

#2 Chill Out & Mingle In The Lobby & Free Usage Of The Hotel’s Amenities

The communal space at the lobby gives guests an amazing view of Taipei 101. You can also catch the sunset from the lobby while sipping a glass of cocktail in the evenings. There is a ping pong table and a table soccer to keep your kids, or even yourselves, entertained.

There is a 24-hour Fitness Room free for guests to use on level 18, with treadmills, recumbent cycle, ascent trainer, punching bag, and weights. Not a bad idea to hit the fitness room since you might be eating your way through the night markets in Taipei! There is also a 24-hour self-service Laundry Room where you get to wash and dry your laundry without paying an extra cent.

#3 Indulge In The Delicious Food That Changes Throughout The Day At QUE

The dining space features wall-to-wall windows and a 7-metre-high atrium filling the area with natural light. We began our day with a hearty buffet breakfast! In the afternoon, this space makes a delightful spot for tea with your girlfriends. By night, QUE is lit up by giant bamboo lanterns, and transforms into a lively gathering place. The woodfired grill is QUE’s modern approach to the classic chophouse. You get to watch the chefs cook with a woodfire in the open kitchen, and savour premium, all-natural steaks and fresh seafood.

#4 Go On A Shopping Spree At Wu Fen Pu

Girls, this is a shopping trip that you can’t miss! Wu Fen Pu is Taipei’s largest wholesale market for clothes and accessories. Shopaholics will never finish browsing the entire market in a day.

#5 Try As Much Street Food As You Can At Rao He Night Market

Located just 5 minutes’ walk away from amba Taipei Songshan, Rao He night market has many food offerings ranging from pepper meat buns (福州世祖胡椒饼), to omelette with toppings (玉子烧), to pork ribs herbal stew (陈董药炖排骨), to spicy stinky tofu (下港名彭臭豆腐), just to name a few.

When the weather’s cool, I don’t mind joining the queue for pepper meat buns as you get to watch the vendors hand-make each bun right in front of your eyes. I already started salivating before I made my order. However, during summer time, I get a little frustrated when the queue is too long. Remember to grab a cup of traditional winter-melon tea to quench your thirst! I like it as it makes me think of it as a healthier alternative to Taipei’s popular bubble milk tea.

Rao He Street Night Market Details
Address: Raohe Street and Sec. 4, Bade Road and Fuyuan Street, Taipei City
Opening Hours: 5pm to 12midnight daily

Besides what I have mentioned above, amba Taipei Songshan’s neighbourhood (formerly known as Xikou) has more than 200 years of history. An interesting blend of old and new, the district is home to the traditional Ciyou Temple, the romantic Rainbow Bridge, and many other spots. For concerts and cultural events, Taipei Arena and Songshan Cultural & Creative Park are less than 10 minutes’ drive away. We really enjoyed our stay in this tranquil part of Taipei. So, if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle, amba Taipei Songshan hotel is the perfect place for you!
